Roxanne Bocyck, President and Safety Instructor
Back to School, Inc., Syracuse, New York

My name is Roxanne Bocyck and I am passionate about education and how it can change people's lives. Education can give people confidence and the ability to overcome challenges. It can give us an opportunity to learn about ourselves.

When I first began college in 2005 part-time at Syracuse University through University College, so many doors opened for me! This included scholarships that helped me to know somebody believes in me when I was ready to give it up; having poetry I wrote published in a book and comics I drew about being an adult going back to school in the Daily Orange. I was the bus driver who went "back to school" and soon became the spokesperson in commercials for part-time studies at SU. I was even on a billboard!

During my evening, weekend and online classes I have had the privilege of getting to know people who, like me, have different reasons for attending college: changing from a job to a career, a passion to learn and the goal to have a framed piece of paper we can hold in our hands and proudly say, "Yes! I did it!".

Albert Einstein said, "Education is not the learning of facts, but the training of the mind to think."

I started Back To School, Inc. to give people the support they need to go "back to school" and help them to appreciate the opportunities life can offer.
