This past weekend I had the privilege of attending the New York Association For Pupil Transportation (NYAPT) Committee and Board meetings where safety is a #1 priority. The members come from all over New York State to represent the 2.3 million children who ride a school bus in NYS each day.

Despite the stress of beginning a new school year and transportation personnel doing more with less, the Board of Directors and members of NYAPT made time to meet and are setting their safety priorities for the 2013-2014 school year. NYAPT committees are actively involved in important issues involving pupil safety, professional development of transportation staff and legislation that ensures the school bus is as safe and efficient as possible.

All of us have a connection to the yellow school bus. I encourage you to take a moment and visit the NYAPT website and learn more about this organization and its members who make school bus safety a priority in our communities!
